Build 42. De Dion Tube

As per usual the first step was to locate all the parts. The main pieces were in a large mechanical marked box, and the smaller bits were in the axle box. I had already had the rear brake hose sent out with the front ones as they didn't arrive with the kit. For the fixings, I noted that it asked for 2 washers from pack "I" (part IK) but only 1 of these is actually used on the picture (on the dangling end of the brake hose). The x2 is a typo because the older manual used to call for the second washer to be used where the brake hose connects to the 3 way union and this is wrong, and in another builders blog CC had to rectify the issue for them at cost. It also doesn't state what washer to use on the 3 way union where it connects to the bar, for this I used a 1/4" washer from pack C which never seems to be used on my build.

The next job was to simply widen the pre-drilled holes with a 3.2mm drill bit (or 1/8" inch) ready to rivet on the brake lines. This was all fairly simple and all went together quite trivially, I used my newly bought drill rivet attachment which made riveting even more riveting.

To complete the job I used some left over fuel hose to protect the brake hose and secured it with cable ties. This was then attached to the 3 way union as shown below. Note the washer configurations used in the photos.

To install it into the chassis required a bit of skill and finesse to avoid denting and scratching and of the powder coated chassis rails, I protected these with pipe insulation as I had done in the engine bay in the past.
